At South Summit 2020, Elizabeth Rossiello, then CEO of BitPesa (now AZA Finance), joined Nicolas Cary, co-founder and vice chairman of Blockchain.com, for a fireside chat on “The Opportunity of Decentralization.” The conversation explored how blockchain and cryptocurrency were reshaping financial access and inclusion across Africa and beyond.

Elizabeth shared insights from building BitPesa into one of Africa’s earliest digital FX and crypto companies, explaining how mobile money in Kenya inspired her to see Bitcoin as “M-Pesa for the rest of the world.” She discussed the evolution of AZA Finance’s multi-currency infrastructure and reflected on leadership, resilience, and the role of women in fintech.
