Blockchain Africa Conference 2018: Revolutionising Foreign Exchange in Africa with Bitcoin

At the Blockchain Africa Conference 2018, Elizabeth Rossiello, Founder and CEO of BitPesa (now AZA Finance), delivered a keynote on “Revolutionising Foreign Exchange in Africa with Bitcoin.”

She outlined how BitPesa became the first company in the world to create a direct market between African currencies, mobile money, and Bitcoin, reducing friction in cross-border trade and providing compliant, efficient alternatives to traditional FX systems. Elizabeth also addressed regulatory challenges, gender barriers in fintech, and the importance of liquidity and infrastructure for Africa’s growing digital economy.
